The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is seeking undergraduate or graduate
students for summer positions at its facility in Washington, DC. The
Directed Energy (DE) Visiting Scholars program will offer students the
opportunity to participate in theoretical or experimental projects at NRL.
Directed energy research areas at NRL include high power laser physics, laser
propagation in the atmosphere, laser-matter interactions, microwave
processing of optical materials, free electron laser, underwater
laser applications, and nonlinear optics.
Candidates must be pursuing a major in an appropriate technical discipline
such as physics, engineering, chemistry, computer science, materials science,
or applied mathematics. U. S. citizenship or permanent U. S. residency is
also required. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an educational
institution on at least a half time basis.
